The Olde Town Tunnel: What’s Down There?

May 15, 2019

The tunnel in Olde Town has been in Wizard101 since June 2018 and we have been given little to no information to work out what it possibly could present to players. In the most recent update for Wizard101, the Spring update, the tunnel dialogue was updated. The workers inform us that one of the few landscapers working on the Wizard City revamp ventured down into the tunnel and has not returned. This seems to alarm Renee Wooften and the other landscapers as they say that the situation could be trouble. This brings me to my question: What is in the Olde Town tunnel?

A handful of players have speculated that the tunnel could serve many purposes. Some theories consist of a higher level “ZigaZag” or “Darkmoor” top-tier type of dungeon, while others say it may be an entirely new area for us to explore, however, these are all fan-made theories with nothing officially confirmed. Unfortunately, we are not given any hints as to what could be upcoming in the tunnel, just a stone wall with a caved-in area under a portion of the ground and a vague conversation via the workers. I believe the tunnel reveal could be coming as soon as this summer, due to the dialogue change and since it will be about a year since the initial release of the tunnel.

A post from the forum user “HydraytPlayz” relating to the tunnel.

My second theory ties in with the additions of the 4 streets being updated with this recent update. While I was running around Cyclops Lane, I noticed something eye-catching and breathtaking. In the mid-area of Cyclops Lane, approaching General Akilles, there has been a new land add-on at a higher elevation being held up by a large cyclops stone sculpture. This area may easily be where the tunnel leads. The location seems like a perfect fit for the resulting location since it is connected to the wall between Triton Avenue and Cyclops Lane. The only thing that I can see immediately disproving this theory is that the area is not visible in Classic Mode, which could possibly cause a visual conflict between players who use the 2 different visual modes. I do just find it odd that they would add on a large land extension with a building atop it. I feel like it will eventually serve more purpose than just visual.

Now that I’ve discussed where I believe the tunnel will lead, let’s talk about what I believe the utility of this add-on could be. I believe the most likely candidate for the tunnel could be a new Level 130 Dungeon. This dungeon is something that players have suggested for months now since previously, we had dungeons for new improved gear about every 10-30 levels. This includes Zeus (30), Waterworks (60), ZigaZag (60), Poseidon (70),  Hades (90), and Malistaire the Undying (100). These serve aid to players as they quest through the game by keeping their stats Currently, this is the perfect time to introduce new improved gear since it is 30 levels after the previous major dungeon and I believe this decision will benefit largely to players at higher levels. The new gear could possibly appear to be a bit more high-tech since Empyrea had tons of technology references throughout. Statistic wise, I have no clue, but I can almost assure it will not be a letdown! This update will also serve as extra content not only for the players at the current top level but also for the people who will eventually reach there.

A KI Live question all the way back from July 2018 asking if the hole could be a new dungeon.

I am very excited to see what the Wizard101 team brings us for the Olde Town tunnel, and I hope to eventually spot some teasers or hints to what the tunnel contains floating around. Players being able to see another new content add-on that was fan suggested would be amazing and would feel very accomplishing to the community. To be able to work together to come up with something that eventually got put in the game is a wonderful experience.
