Pots of Gold (and XP): NXP Parties!

Mar 19, 2024

Ahoy Pirates! With March, brings St. Patrick’s Day to the skyways, and lots of Gold with it. Gold is an important part of Pirate101 and an important part of being a successful Pirate. Without all those Huge Piles of Treasure, how are you going to prove your Skyway successes?

Perhaps the second, or at least top 5, most important parts of being a Pirate is your Ship! In order to have a good ship you need to have a respectable Nautical Experience Level (NXP), don’t take it from us, Vanessa Mythdust herself spoke on the importance of maintaining your NXP Level and we’ve got some handy tips on how to maintain, and why it’s so important to keep your NXP Level close to your normal level.

Gold and NXP are plentiful in the Skyways, you just need to know where to look. One of my favourite ways to obtain both, at the same time (!), is NXP Parties. NXP Parties were once monthly occurrences in the Pirate101 Community and were certainly a massive “Pot of Gold” moment for all players involved.

NXP parties involved masses (up to 50 people sometimes) of ships, of all levels including some Level 5 Pirates, accumulating in the highest-level skyway of the game (depending on when you look, was either Achean Way [Aquila] or Calabria Way [Valencia, Part 2]) and simply just obliterating any and every ship, or Turret, in view. This included generic mob ships, boss ships (we had a particular liking to Captain Pluton on the Kerberos for the Horn of Vesuvius, a horn that gave an AoE attack. Also in the running would be Martin Chambers on The Pretender in Calabria Skyway who gives the Horn of the Maxios and the Horn of Stheno, both the strongest Horn attacks in the game. As a result of these en masse attacks, ship battles took up to 2 seconds long and you could hit hundreds in a Party, if you wanted to.

These fast-paced and hard-hitting battles would result in multiple level ups your NXP Levels, dragging you up to speed with your main character level, and if you were a low enough NXP Level, you could level up to Level 30 and be a Level 5 pirate, making you insanely strong for your Ship quests and fights, and make questing just a little quicker for you.

But more importantly, you can get a LOT of gold. I would max out after some NXP parties, not just from the Gold plundered from the fights themselves, but also from the masses of ship equipment that you acquire from these fights. This will give you enough gold to upgrade and deck out your new, high level ships, but also upgrade your companions via Tomes, new gear and maybe with enough left over to refill your potions! The possibilities are (almost) endless.

I have fond memories of these NXP parties, especially the one we did for the 2016 Fansite Festival which you can find recapped here (AoS) and here (Swordroll) and some fun Events that Final Bastion have held.

Thanks to Swordroll for this awesome gif from his 2016 post: https://adventuresofthespiral.com/blog/2016/04/18/fansite-festival-recap/

If you can get a bunch of friends together to have your own little NXP Party, I would highly recommend it. They’re so fun, and so rewarding – Ship fights are one of the best parts of Pirate101 and I can’t wait to see where it goes in the future.

If you’re interested in joining an NXP party, stay tuned. We’ll be announcing some NXP Party Events in the near (-er than you think) future for you to join in on and even win some extra Prizes!

Let us know your memories of NXP Parties, or what your “Pot of Gold” moment in Pirate101 is.

I’ve been a part of AoS since we started the site back in 2013 and I’ve loved to watch it grow over the past 8 years, you can find me in the Marleybone Admiralty on the Isle of Dogs.
